I LEFT MY HEART IN MELBOURNE #2
Cafe culture is a big part of the lifestyle here at Down Under. Wei Li, Ken’s sister who is more than generous by allowing us crashing her place for two weeks, chose a tiny unique cafe in Lt. Lonsdale, Giraffe.
The place is lovable from the very first entry, spoiling you with coffee smell and tantalizing homemade pies (if you know me, anything labelled ‘homemade’ is translated into “plus 10,000 points” in my brain).
Going inside, you see this green tree (looks like a real tree, seriously!) standing in the middle of a wooden room filled with buzzing sounds from chats over lunch. We sat in the corner where little old things like the typewriter, rattan mini suitcase, and jenga blocks, amused us like little kids.
Cold chicken salad with noodle (AUD 10) felt just right in that sunny afternoon. The noodle has delicate texture, the green and red lettuce were crunch fresh, and the best part is..the sauce! OH MY! I could taste sour salad dressing, perhaps a bit of orange juice and maybe..tangerine? Since then I promised myself I shall do research to recreate such delicacy. Coffee came next, chai latte and mocca ice coffee (both at below AUD 4). Never a fan of coffee, but the sip of chai impressed me.
The small street continued bringing its charm to us with things like artsy furniture shop and leather shoe stall that seem to pop out of nowhere.
That very charm, kept us wandering for 9 hours throughout the day..
