The year is still early, and the first Grand Slam of the year has just ended.
Millions of eyes watched two best friends, who faced each other in a thrilling Australian Open 2001 Men’s Singles Final.
News brought us stories that the history between the Serbian Djokovic and Scot Murray dated since they were 13, 10 years ago.
The 3rd and 5th seed players were both benefited by the withdrawal of Nadal, the strongest player who outruns practically everyone in skills and mentality.
Djokovic beats Federer and the next day Murray beats Ferrer; making their way closer to the shining Asia Pacific Grandslam trophy. It could be the pressure, or the fatigue, or any other reasons we might not know, that Murray did not show his best at the final. On the total opposite, Djokovic was almost flawless, guarding his side of the court with the speed of a lion, and played aggressively as he continued pushing stresssed-out Murray to the edge.
And, he nailed it! Earning his 2nd Grand Slam title (of many more to come, I have faith in you!!) It feels like a personal victory too, as throughout my short history of being a tennis enthusiast, he always has been a personal favorite. His erratic performance, unlike Nadal or Federer, adds up to the tension which brings extra excitement in times of his glory.
As his huge picture will be put up as the face of Rod Laver Arena, this is for hoping I will be back there and take a closer look at his mark of glory. Next time you are in the final, I will be cheering from the best possible seat with a huge sign saying: “Djokovic: MY KIND OF HOT!’
VIVA DJOKOVIC!
