I LEFT MY HEART IN MELBOURNE #5
Monday night offers great deal in this posh cinema in Collins Street, Kino.
‘Blue Valentine’ it is tonight. The relatively small cinema brings this comfortable feeling when we slipped in just a few minutes after it started. Cindy (Michelle Williams) was a young mother of Frankie, a 5-year-old. Her marriage with Dean (Ryan Gosling) is far from perfect; real, might be the best word to describe it as the movie is trying to be as realistic as possible. If you are hoping this would be another romantic Valentine’s Day movies, you would be let down.
The low-budget movie offers unique shooting angles, highlighting facial expressions, which are the backbone of the whole flashback movie.
What is very distinctive and moving was the acting. Williams and Gosling have very strong on-screen chemistry as they portray the wrecking ship of marriage. It is very dark and real at one time, the kind of movie you would not wanna watch if you have Monday blues or any sort of blues.
Last time I read that Williams get an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her role in this movie, although not many talk about it. I think she deserves more recognition,
for although that night we all went home with post-movie depression under the soft drizzle, it is definitey a movie worth watching. No Hollywood glams, or fake attitudes, or fairy tale endings.. just a real portrayal of how love alone, is never enough. And perfect balance in relationships maybe is just wishful thinking, because one has to love the other half more.
